Hi, I'm Laura Hargrave

About

I deliver, practical nutrition and health expertise for Christians who want to lose weight, restore their health and feel their best — in body, mind and spirit.

My own journey has taken me from an overweight smoker, to a depleted vegan marathon runner, to more than 25 years working professionally in health and nutrition.

Along the way, I’ve learned that better health isn’t built by finding the perfect diet, following every new health trend or collecting an ever-growing list of things you should be doing.

It begins with understanding what actually deserves your attention.

Today, I help Christian women lose excess weight, restore energy, improve their wider health and find greater freedom around food — while developing the wisdom to care for their health for the years ahead.

Because health matters. But health is not the purpose of your life.

I want to help you care wisely for the body God has given you, so it can better support the life and calling He has given you.

I know what it’s like to want to lose weight, feel better and do all the “right” things for your health — only to discover that trying harder doesn’t necessarily make you healthier.

Before retraining in nutrition, I worked within the NHS as a Medical Research Manager, collaborating with medical consultants and researchers.

My work included writing government research reports, managing medical research and serving on an ethics committee reviewing clinical trials. It also gave me an inside view of how research is funded, what gets studied, and how commercial incentives can influence the questions asked and the treatments pursued — particularly when profitable medications are involved.

That experience still shapes how I approach health today: research-literate, funding-aware, clinically experienced and willing to question the headlines rather than simply accept them.

Medical Research

My later studies have also included a Diploma in Neuroscience, deepening my understanding of the brain, behaviour and the processes involved when knowing what to do and actually doing it turn out to be two rather different things.

Neuroscience

I’m the author of three published books spanning nutrition, health and Christian theology, including two bestsellers, with books published by Hay House and Rockridge Media.

My first two books explored the alkaline diet and plant-based nutrition and were written during an earlier chapter of my health journey.

My nutritional thinking has developed significantly since their publication, so those books don’t represent every aspect of the approach I teach today — though I still place great importance on the value of alkaline mineral rich foods in our diet.

My third book explores health and theology in the context of the Covid era and reflects a later chapter in both my Christian faith and my work.

In 2010, I created and hosted the Natural Health & Vitality Conference — an international event bringing together speakers and experts from across the natural health and wellbeing space.

I’ve been speaking and teaching on health and nutrition for many years, sharing my work on stages, at events, through workshops and in Christian and health-focused communities.

Today, I continue to speak and teach about weight loss, appetite, nutrition, metabolic health and Christian health stewardship — helping women better understand their bodies and make wiser decisions about their health.

My Christian faith isn’t something I’ve simply added to my work as a nutritionist.

It shapes the worldview from which I understand health, the body, food and our responsibility to care for ourselves.

Following my deliverance from New Age spirituality and becoming a committed follower of Jesus, I went on to deepen my understanding of Scripture and Christian theology through formal study.

I spent two years doing an intensive Bible and Theology course; the  acclaimed Biblical Frameworks programme and Book By Book studies.

That foundation informs the way I teach about health today: with an emphasis on stewardship, discernment, trust and fruitfulness.

Faith & Theology

"And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands."

- Psalm 90:17

Following Jesus didn’t make nutrition, physiology or metabolic health matter less to me.

It put them in their proper place.

I believe our bodies matter. How we nourish them matters. Our everyday choices matter.

And I believe caring for our health can be an important part of stewarding what God has entrusted to us.

But Christian stewardship doesn’t mean believing that if we eat perfectly, exercise enough, pray hard enough or follow all the right health advice, we can guarantee what happens to our bodies.

We can’t.

There are things about ageing, genetics, illness and these bodies that we cannot control.
But that doesn’t mean we’re powerless either.

Age changes the body, but it doesn’t remove every area of influence.

There may still be a great deal we can do to nourish ourselves better, strengthen our bodies, improve our metabolic health, change patterns that aren’t serving us and make wiser choices about how we live.

For me, Christian health sits in that tension: We are responsible, but we are not sovereign.

We aren’t promised complete control over these bodies. We are called to wise stewardship of what God has placed within our influence, while trusting Him with what isn’t.

That means we need to take responsibility, without condemnation. Action without pretending we control every outcome, and discernment rather than fear. We can have gratitude for our bodies, rather than spending our lives criticising them.

It also changes the way I think about food...

I don’t believe Christian women need a supposedly “Biblical” diet, more food rules or another way to divide foods into morally good and bad.

Food matters enormously. But food is also meant to fit into life.

My take is this:
Take nutrition more seriously. Take food less seriously.

Learn what nourishes you. Understand your appetite. Make choices that serve your body and the life you’re trying to live.

And then get on with living it, and thriving in your God-given power.

My Faith Changed The Way I Think About Health.

I want the women I work with to lose excess weight when they need to.

I want them to have more energy.

I want them to sleep better, nourish themselves well, understand their appetite and improve the areas of their health that remain within their influence.

But ultimately, I want their bodies to be better able to support their lives.

Perhaps that means having the energy to play with your grandchildren.

Travelling without wondering whether your body will cope.

Continuing to work, create or serve.

Feeling strong enough to remain independent as you get older.

Being more present with the people you love.

Or simply waking up with more capacity for whatever God has put in front of you that day.

Health is not the purpose of your life. Better health can help your body support the life God has given you.

That’s what Health in Faith means to me.

Better health now. Better health wisdom for later.

Because What Is Your Health Actually For?

You’ll usually find me spending time with my husband, getting into open water for a swim, playing the piano or singing in our band, writing music, enjoying great food, street outreach, serving at church — or dreaming up whatever project has caught my imagination next.

I love beauty, creativity, meaningful conversation and living life fully.

And yes, I genuinely enjoy eating.

Because despite spending a large part of my working life talking about nutrition, I don’t believe life is supposed to revolve around food or health.

For me, the point of looking after my body is being well enough to get on with living — loving people, doing meaningful work, serving God and enjoying the life He’s given me.

And that’s the kind of freedom I want for the women I work with too.

And When I’m Not Talking About Health...

You don’t need to overhaul your life today. And you don’t need to work out everything that might be going on before you begin.

Start with the question that feels most relevant to you right now. I'd encourage you to take one of the steps that feels right below...
