I’ve been a health coach for 24 years as I write. I can tell you this: Health is more than calories, workouts, or supplements—it’s about stewarding the body God has given us. As Christians, we are called to honor our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20, NKJV). Yet many believers are unaware of the rich wisdom Scripture provides about physical wellbeing. In this post and podcast episode, we’ll explore seven common and lesser-known Bible verses about health, plus practical applications that can transform your approach to nutrition, exercise, and spiritual wellness.
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
Physical health is tied to spiritual wisdom. Decisions rooted in obedience to God—about diet, rest, or stress management—have tangible benefits for the body.
Application: Evaluate lifestyle habits through a biblical lens: are they guided by wisdom or convenience? Align health goals with spiritual values to create sustainable change.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
This is probably the most quoted health verse in the Bible, and for good reason. Our physical health matters because God dwells within us. Caring for your body through proper nutrition, exercise, and rest isn’t just practical—it’s spiritual.
“A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”
Emotional and spiritual health directly impacts physical wellbeing. Stress, anxiety, and unforgiveness can increase inflammation, lower immunity, and sap energy. Conversely, cultivating joy, gratitude, and laughter strengthens the body.
Application: Schedule daily moments of joy—prayer, praise, or time with loved ones. Track how your mood affects your energy and physical health over time.
