If you’re stepping gracefully into your 60s or beyond, you’ve likely noticed that our bodies don’t bounce back quite like they used to and you probably feel the pressure to use anti-ageing products. But here’s the wonderful truth: God designed our bodies with incredible resilience and He provided foods in His creation to nourish us, sustain us, and help us thrive in every season of life.
Staying healthy isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about being equipped to serve Him fully, to walk in vitality and to bear fruit for His kingdom even as the years advance. Today, we’re diving into five anti-ageing foods God created and exploring why including them in your diet can help you stay strong, sharp, and fruitful in your later years.
Ageing is normal, but feeling older than you are is not God’s design. He never intended for you to live exhausted, inflamed, foggy, or discouraged in your body. Scripture paints a completely different picture—one of renewal, strength, restoration, and vitality.
Psalm 103:5 says, “He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” And guess what? Many of those ‘good things’ are the whole, nourishing foods He created from the very beginning.
Modern nutritional science now confirms what God built into creation: certain foods slow ageing, support collagen, protect your cells, balance hormones, increase energy, and help you look and feel younger from the inside out.
In this post and podcast episode, let’s walk through the five most powerful anti-ageing foods God created—and the science behind why they work. You’ll also get a bonus insight not covered in the podcast: one surprising lifestyle factor Christian women often overlook that accelerates ageing more than any food can fix. Let’s dig in.
A lot of people assume ageing just ‘happens’. Wrinkles, fatigue, brain fog, belly fat, thinning hair—it’s all supposedly inevitable.
But research shows something different. Up to 80% of ageing is influenced by nutrition and lifestyle, not genetics (Harvard School of Public Health, 2023). Meaning? Your daily habits can slow ageing dramatically—or speed it up.
And the foods God created are among the most powerful tools you have to renew your body: They reduce inflammation, support hormone balance, improve collagen, protect your brain, and boost your energy. They literally help your body function the way God designed it to.

Let’s walk through the top five foods He created to help you age well and stay strong.
Berries are tiny but mighty. They’re packed with antioxidants called anthocyanins, the pigment that gives blueberries, raspberries, cherries, and blackberries their deep color.
These antioxidants do things like reduce oxidative stress (the main driver of ageing), protect your cells, and improve skin health. One study from the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that berries lowered oxidative stress by up to 38%. And research in Annals of Neurology showed that women who ate two servings of berries weekly slowed cognitive ageing by up to 2.5 years.
But beyond the science, berries were part of the original diet God gave in the garden of Eden; life-giving, nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich food.
“And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”
– Genesis 1:29
How to use them? Enjoy ½–1 cup daily in smoothies, yogurt bowls, or as a simple snack.
Olive oil is one of the most beautiful Biblical foods. It’s a symbol of anointing, blessing, healing, and strength. And scientifically, it lives up to that symbolism.
“The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” – Proverbs 21:20
It’s rich in polyphenols—powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that protect your heart, brain, and skin. The famous PREDIMED Study showed that people who consumed extra virgin olive oil daily experienced 30% fewer major cardiovascular events and had slower biological ageing markers.
Olive oil helps keep your skin supple, your hormones balanced, and your brain sharp. God knew exactly what He was doing when He made the olive tree flourish in the ancient world.
How to use it? Drizzle 1–2 tablespoons daily on salads, soups, vegetables, or cooked meals. Just don’t burn it—keep it below smoking point so you don’t lose the nutrients.
Leafy greens are basically God’s multivitamin. Kale, rocket (arugula for all you non-English folk!), lettuce—these are some of the most nutrient-rich foods ever created. In my view, it’s best to avoid spinach and chard (what I hear you say??). Yep—they contain high amounts of toxic anti-nutrient oxalates, which can wreak all sorts of havoc on your health. Trust me, I’ve seen this a lot.
Greens help detoxify your body, support collagen production, lower inflammation, and keep your brain sharp. A study in Neurology found that women who ate one serving of leafy greens per day had cognitive function 11 years younger than those who didn’t.
And because they’re rich in chlorophyll, magnesium, folate, and vitamin K, they support bone health, hormone balance, and cell repair.
Biblically, greens fall under ‘plants yielding seed’, created by God for nourishment and vitality.
How to use them? Add them to smoothies, salads, omelets, soups, or sauté them with garlic and olive oil. Aim for 1–2 cups daily.

Fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are essential anti-ageing foods because they contain omega-3s (EPA and DHA). These fats are rare in the modern diet but vital for slowing ageing.
Research from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that omega-3s actually slow ageing at the DNA level by protecting your telomeres (the protective caps on your chromosomes). People with higher omega-3 intake had significantly slower biological ageing.
Fatty fish also helps with:
• Hormone regulation
• Brain power
• Mood stability
• Skin moisture
• Joint comfort
• Reducing inflammation
And Scripture reminds us of how central fish was to ancient diets—Jesus fed thousands with fish, and it symbolised nourishment and provision. The risen Christ Himself cooked and fed His disciples fish for breakfast.
“Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.” – John 21:13
How to use it? Aim for 2–3 servings per week. Sardines with the skin and bones are especially collagen-rich.
This is the big one. Collagen keeps your skin firm, your joints comfortable, your hair strong, your gut lining healthy, and your bones resilient. But after age 25, collagen declines steadily—up to 30% after menopause for women.
Collagen-rich foods include:
• Bone broth
• Beef shank
• Skin-on chicken
• Slow-cooked meats
• Sardines with skin and bones
• Gelatin-based soups
• Collagen peptides
Scientific evidence is strong here. A randomised controlled trial in Nutrients (2019) showed collagen peptides significantly improved skin elasticity, hydration, and fine lines. And glycine, found in collagen-rich foods, improves sleep and reduces inflammation (Japanese Neuropsychopharmacology Research Group).
Scripture references marrow, bones, slow-cooked meats, and nutrient-dense animal foods as sources of strength, healing, and covenant.
How to use them? Drink bone broth a few times per week, add collagen powder to coffee, or include slow-cooked meats in your weekly meals.
Here’s something I didn’t include in the podcast, but it’s incredibly important.
You can eat all the healthy anti-ageing foods in the world—but if your body is constantly under stress, it will age faster than any diet can fix.
A groundbreaking study in PNAS found that chronic stress shortens telomeres—the protective caps of your DNA—accelerating ageing by up to 10 years.
This matters especially for Christian women, because many of us carry stress silently while serving everyone else.
But Scripture gives us a clear anti-ageing invitation:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
“Come to me, all who are weary…” – Matthew 11:28
Stillness is anti-ageing.
Peace is anti-ageing.
Rest is anti-ageing.
Your nervous system listens when you trust God. Pair that with the foods He created for your healing, and you activate the full design of your body—fearfully and wonderfully made.
Ageing doesn’t have to mean decline. These five foods—berries, extra virgin olive oil, leafy greens, fatty fish, and collagen-rich foods—are God’s way of nourishing, restoring, and renewing your body.
He created you for strength.
He created you for vitality.
He created you for renewal.
And He gave you everything you need in creation to age with grace, joy, and energy.
Your job is simple: steward the gift.
