The Lord really spoke to me through Scripture this week… He gave me a powerful Bible verse for health.
Not through a typical “health verse,” but through something unexpected—something I’ve read many times before, yet never quite seen like this. And I don’t believe this is just for me. I believe this is a word for the Body of Christ, particularly in the area of health, healing, and discernment in the times we’re living in.
Because let me ask you something honestly. What if the issue isn’t just what you’re eating… or how much you’re exercising… but where you are seeking your health solutions from?
That’s where this begins.
The passage is Proverbs 7:10–23. At first glance, it’s not a bible verse for health at all. It’s about temptation, seduction, and deception. A man is drawn in by something appealing, persuasive, even comforting—and he follows it without discernment.
But then we read this:
“Immediately he went after her… till an arrow struck his liver… he did not know it would cost his life.” (NKJV)
That phrase is unusual. An arrow struck his liver. Why the liver?
As I sat with this, I sensed the Lord highlighting something deeper. This passage is not just about moral temptation. It is about the nature of deception itself—how something can look harmless, even beneficial, and yet carry consequences that only become clear later.
And when we bring that into the area of health, it becomes incredibly relevant.
Because we are living in a time where many solutions are presented to us as safe, effective, and necessary… yet we are not always encouraged to ask what they are doing beneath the surface.

One of the patterns I see over and over again in my work is this: people are genuinely trying to get well, but they are looking for solutions in places that do not ultimately lead to healing.
They’re tired. They’re struggling. They go to the doctor. They’re given medication. And that becomes the pathway.
Now let’s be balanced here; medication has its place. It can be necessary, it might be life-saving. But what concerns me is how quickly it becomes the default—without deeper questioning, without discernment, and without addressing root causes.
Because Proverbs 7 shows us a pattern that applies far beyond its original context: Something looks good, it sounds reassuring and it promises relief…So we follow it.
The woman in the passage speaks with confidence. She presents what she offers as safe, even desirable. But the man does not pause. He does not discern. He yields quickly.
And that’s the issue. Not that something exists—but that it is followed without wisdom.
This is not theoretical for me. I worked within the medical system for years, in the world of medical research, and I saw things that changed how I view it entirely. At the same time, I was caught in new age deception for nearly a decade, driven by a genuine desire for health and healing.
And here’s what I found. There were many voices talking about “health”… but very few rooted in biblical truth and spiritual light.
That gap led me down the wrong path for a season. And it’s one of the reasons I am so passionate now about equipping believers with biblical health wisdom.
Because if the Church does not speak clearly in this area, other voices will. And many of those voices are persuasive, attractive, and convincing—but not grounded in truth.
Since 2020 especially, we have seen just how powerful medical narratives can be, and how quickly people can be led without questioning. That’s not said to provoke fear, but to call for discernment.
Because discernment is what Proverbs 7 is ultimately about.
Let’s come back to the liver. Because this is where the physical connection becomes clear.
Your liver is central to your metabolism and detoxification. It processes everything from hormones to toxins to medications. It regulates blood sugar, supports digestion through bile production, and plays a key role in energy balance.
When the liver is functioning well, the body tends to feel stable, energised, and clear. When it’s burdened, symptoms begin to show up in subtle ways.
From a scientific perspective, the liver carries out complex detoxification processes—often referred to as Phase I and Phase II detox—which rely heavily on nutrients like glutathione, B vitamins, and amino acids (Lu, 2013).
But here’s the key. The liver can cope with a lot… until it can’t. It is incredibly resilient, but it is not limitless. And chronic burden—especially from toxins and medications—can gradually push it beyond capacity. That’s when problems begin.
Let’s walk through this clearly and calmly, because this is where understanding brings freedom.
Every medication you take must be processed by the liver. This is not optional—it is simply how the body works.
The liver breaks substances down into intermediate compounds so they can be eliminated. But in many cases, those intermediate compounds are actually more toxic than the original substance before they are neutralised (Zanger & Schwab, 2013).
So what happens when this is happening repeatedly, day after day? The liver is working constantly, using up resources, managing an increasing load.
If your body is already dealing with stress, processed foods, or environmental toxins, this adds another layer. It’s not usually one thing, it’s the accumulation.
Some medications are directly toxic to the liver. A well-known example is paracetamol (acetaminophen), which is one of the leading causes of acute liver failure when taken in high doses (Chalasani et al., 2015).
But even outside of overdose situations, regular use can place strain on the liver over time. Other medications, including certain antibiotics and statins, are also known to elevate liver enzymes—an indicator that the liver is under stress.
This doesn’t always cause immediate symptoms, which is why it’s often overlooked.
This is a crucial point that many people don’t realise. Medications don’t just add a burden—they can also deplete the very nutrients your liver needs to function well. B vitamins, magnesium, and glutathione are all essential for detox pathways. When these are depleted, the liver’s ability to process toxins is reduced.
So you have a situation where the load is increasing, and the capacity to deal with it is decreasing. That’s a double strain on the system.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is now extremely common, particularly in midlife. Certain medications can contribute to fat accumulation in the liver by altering metabolism and insulin sensitivity (Pessayre et al., 2010). When this is combined with blood sugar instability, poor diet, or metabolic dysfunction, the effect is amplified.
This is why so many people feel stuck. They are trying to improve their health, but something underneath is working against them.
Over time, chronic exposure to medications and other toxins can reduce the liver’s overall efficiency. This doesn’t happen overnight, it happens gradually and it often shows up as a general sense that the body is not coping as well as it used to. Energy dips, your recovery slows and symptoms persist.
And the person often feels confused, because they are trying to do the right things. But the underlying burden has not been addressed.
This is where we need to come back to the heart of this Bible verse for health in Proverbs 7. The issue is not simply what you take. It’s where you turn.
Do you pause and seek God’s wisdom?
Do you ask what your body actually needs?
Do you look for root causes?
Or do you go straight to the quickest available solution?
The passage describes a man who does not discern. He follows immediately. He does not question the path — and that is the warning. Not about medication itself—but about unquestioned dependence.
The Bible speaks about pharmakeia, often translated as sorcery, which historically referred to the use of substances in ways that could deceive or manipulate. Again, this requires balance. Not all medicine is wrong. But it does call for awareness.
Because the enemy does not always work through obvious darkness. He often works through subtlety, through things that look helpful, reasonable, and even necessary.

Here is something that is rarely talked about, but incredibly important. It is not usually one thing that creates a problem; it is the accumulation.
A little medication.
A little sugar.
Environmental toxins.
Stress.
Each one on its own may seem manageable. But together, they create a load that the body struggles to process. This is why so many people feel like they are doing everything right but still not seeing results. Often, the turning point comes not from adding more… but from removing what is working against the body.
So what do we do with this? We don’t swing to extremes. We don’t reject everything. And we certainly don’t act out of fear. Instead, we choose wisdom. We begin asking better questions: Is this addressing the root cause? What is the long-term impact? How can I support my body alongside this?
And we bring God into the process. James 1:5 reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask Him. That applies to your health just as much as anything else.
If this has stirred something in you, start simply. Become aware of what you are taking and why. Support your liver with real, nourishing foods. Reduce unnecessary chemical exposure where you can. And begin to seek solutions that work with your body, not just on it.
And if you need guidance, that’s exactly why I created my 4-step Christian Body Reset guide. It gives you a clear, simple framework to begin restoring your health naturally, in alignment with your faith.
That phrase again: “An arrow struck his liver… he did not know it would cost his life.”
It’s an unusual Bible verse for health; but we have to be aware of the subtlety of spiritual deception. Which can show up in how we manage our health and healing. Because what looks like relief in the moment… May not always be leading you toward true healing.
But when you walk in wisdom, when you steward your body well, and when you seek God first in your health decisions, you step out of deception and into life.
